What images come to mind when you hear the word ‘testimony’?

At Cornerstone we understand that the word itself can be off-putting. Perhaps it conjures up images of the person on the high street haranguing shoppers about Jesus, the person that most people are studiously ignoring. Or perhaps we feel that testimony can’t be for us if we haven’t experienced a dramatic revelation of God, so overwhelming and powerful that our lives are irrevocably changed from that moment on. These thoughts can lead us to be shy about communicating our faith and to believing that we have nothing worthwhile to share.

In our Mission and Service Forum, we try hard to encourage each other to share stories. We know that testimony isn’t often about a one-off earth-shattering experience. It can be about a much more gradual and gentler experience, like a steady drip perhaps, a process in which we slowly become aware of God’s power, love and purpose for us. Our stories may be simple but they are still powerful. And we need to share them, regularly and more intentionally, with those that we meet.
